How to find Swimming Canada's current time standards
Time standards are published as documents that are revised, replaced and re-posted. Finding the right one matters more than finding a fast one.
Last reviewed . Official sources can change after that date, so open each one before relying on it.
Key answer
Start from Swimming Canada's Time Standards and Preliminary Competition Information page and open the standards document it links today. Do not rely on a standards PDF reached directly from search: older versions can stay online after they are replaced.
Start from the landing page, not a search result
Swimming Canada publishes its national time standards as documents linked from its Time Standards and Preliminary Competition Information page. That page is the authority for which version is current. A standards PDF reached straight from a search engine or an old bookmark may be an earlier version, and the PDF itself may not tell you that it has been replaced.
Older official PDFs can remain reachable at their original address after a newer version is posted. When this guide was last reviewed, the landing page linked a 2026–2028 standards file dated 29 January 2026, while an earlier file for the same period, dated 8 September 2025, was still online. Both are listed below so you can tell them apart.
Why the details of a standard matter
A standard only applies to the swim it describes. Before comparing a time with one, check each of these:
- Season. Standards are published for a set period, and a new period can change both the times and the rules around them.
- Event. The stroke and distance must match exactly.
- Course. A standard for long course (a 50 m pool) is different from one for short course (a 25 m pool). Read about SCM and LCM.
- Category. Standards can differ by age group, sex category, para classification or level of competition, as the document defines them.
- Meet eligibility. A meet package can set its own qualifying period, accepted courses and entry conditions on top of the standard. Read which rules decide whether a swimmer qualifies.
What this page does not do
It does not reproduce qualifying times. Open the current standards document from Swimming Canada for the times themselves, and the meet package for how a meet applies them.
